Name: Melody
Character's name (first name first, please): Emily (last name unknown), also known as the Corpse Bride
Character's age: unknown, maybe in her early twenties, possibly around 19
Character's gender: Female
Series the character is from: Corpse Bride
Background: Emily appears to have been a rather naive young girl from a very rich family at the time of her death. She fell in love with a man from a very noble family who had lost all their money, but when her plans to marry him were rejected by her father, she decided to elope with him. Dressed in her mother's wedding dress, family jewels and gold in hand, she waited for him under a tree, only to discover in the worst way possible that all he was after was her money. Left for dead, she arrived at the world of the dead and vowed never to leave the land of the living until she found her true love. Some years (assumably) later, a young man named Victor Van Dort came stumbling through the words, practicing his wedding vows for his upcoming arranged marriage to Victoria Everglot. Finally managing to deliver his vows perfectly, he slid the wedding ring with a flourish onto an outstretched branch that looked remarkably like a thin, rotting hand. At this point, Emily returns to the land of the living to chase after Victor, who reacts with fear at seeing a partially skeletonized, decomposing corpse in a rotting wedding dress reaching out for him. She kisses him to seal the deal, he faints, and she takes him to the land of the dead.
Victor, at first, is not in love with her; in fact, he fears her and runs from her at every opportunity. He calls her the other woman despite the fact that she is the woman married to him and not Victoria; he points out that she is dead and he is not, and thus they can never be together. Emily is hugely hurt by this and withdraws, where it is revealed that she can sing, she can play the piano, that she angsts, that she is jealous of Victoria for being alive, that her wedding and marriage are extremely important to her, and that she desperately does love Victor. Victor reconciles with her and seems to be falling in love with her slowly. When their marriage is threatened by the clause "til death do us part," the only solution to keep her marriage is to poison Victor; but Emily refuses, loving Victor too much to do that to him without his consent. At this point, Victor steps in and volunteers to take the poison, because he believes that since Victoria has been engaged to another man [Lord Barkis], there is no reason he should do otherwise.
The marriage is moved up to the land of the living. Emily is ecstatic about the wedding and Victor seems much more at ease than he ever did with Victoria, finishing his wedding vows perfectly and even completing Emily's for her. Emily finds herself unable to go through with the wedding however when she sees Victoria, in her own wedding dress, standing in the shadows and looking heartbroken. Refusing to do to another what was done to her years ago, she brings Victoria and Victor together and prepares to act as a bridesmaid of a sort.
At this point Lord Barkis interrupts to point out that Victoria is married to him, but Emily recognizes him as the man who seduced and killed her years ago. She throws herself in front of Victor, although this is much less self-sacrificial than it appears considering that Lord Barkis' sword doesn't harm her at all. Lord Barkis reveals her further insecurities, toasting Emily as "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" and inquiring, "can a heart still break once it's stopped beating?" Lord Barkis accidentally kills himself, Victor and Victoria are reunited. Victor remembers that he promised to marry her, but Emily tells him that he has kept his promise and set her free, and dissolves into a cloud of butterflies, vanishing either back to the world of the dead or to someplace else.
Personality: Emily is an extreme romantic, which ends up killing her and only hurting her further once she's dead. She's naive and optimistic and, as proven throughout the movie, is just as capable as a living person of emotion. She has a sacrificial, noble streak in her that's probably closely linked to her romantic side. Despite whatever anger and hatred she might hold for someone, it's easy to hurt her with words, especially since she doesn't make much secret of her vulnerabilities. She probably dreamed a great deal about her marriage and in her eagerness to get married, completely missed all of Victor's reluctance and attempts to run away. She's modest, rather blase about being dead and some of its side effects (maggots, occasional eyeball falling out, limbs breaking off), and willing to help anybody who needs it. She easily lets go of whatever resentment or jealousy she might have harbored for Victoria and even guides her to safety in the chapel during the fight between Lord Barkis and Victor. And although Emily has just cause to hate Lord Barkis and want him dead, she only attacks him when Victor is in immediate danger of dying. She has a penchant for the dramatic: she draws Barkis' sword out of her body to point it at him with a certain flair, and she steps into the moonlight and dissolves into butterflies that vanish into the air; she twirls around in the moonlight to appear ethereal and beautiful to Victor (and when he isn't looking, falls over and loses her leg for a moment); twirls at the bottom of a staircase at the beginning of the *real* wedding to Victor with an audience watching. She's apparently very popular with the dead; they refer to her as "their lovely Corpse Bride" and seem to be willing to console her and help her in anything she might need. The scene where she guides Victoria away from the falling benches and the swords, where she places an arm around Victoria's waist, might imply some kind of maternal or sisterly side to her that wasn't fully explored in the movie.
